SAKONNET POINT LIGHTOUSE

Rating: Easy mile walk
Driving directions: From Rt. 24, take Rt. 77 South through Tiverton to Little
Compton. Continue on to the end of Rt. 77. (It is about 16 miles from Rt.
24) When you drive past the Sakonnet Harbor look for Bluff Avenue on the
left. (It is not marked but it says Dead End and if you continue straight
you will end up at the docks.) Turn left on Bluff Avenue and drive to the
end. Park on the right before the last driveway.
Enter West Beach through the stone pillar gate. Follow the shoreline about
mile past a rocky outcrop on the west. Please stay below the high tide line
and off the cliffs and vegetation. When you can see both the east and west
sides of the point, you will see a series of metal posts. The lighthouse is
at 260. Under the rock ledge is a log. Take a seat and reach behind for
your reward. Enjoy your stay at Sakonnet Point. People have been known to
fish or swim here. On your drive home, stop at the Commons Lunch for a bowl
of seafood chowder and check out the cemetery with graves from the early
1700s.

Wow, what a great location for a box. Are you sure they don't serve
chowda, though? ;0)

Dear Trish,
I should specify that the Commons Lunch is at Little Compton Commons on the
way home from letterboxing.
